Civil Protection Exercise Will Test the Cooperation Between the Institutions

Civil Protection Exercise Will Test the Cooperation Between the Institutions

On 12th May 2021 civil protection functional exercise takes place in order to test the preparedness of entities of the system of civil protection, also to test their cooperation and interaction  in case of a potential  nuclear or radiological accident in the Belarusian Astravyets Nuclear Power Plant.

“We all understand that the operation of the nuclear power plant in the neighborhood of Lithuania poses a threat to the safety of residents in our country, therefore, the exercise is essential in order to ensure the best possible cooperation. The exercise is also a great opportunity to remind our society once again what first precautions need to be taken when we hear warning signals.“ – said Ms. Agnė Bilotaitė, the Minister of the Interior.

During the exercise, it is planned to test Public Warning and Information System (GPIS) – sirens will sound in the territory of the country, warning messages will be sent to residents’ mobile phones. Lithuanian Radio and Television will broadcast text and voice warning messages.
