Receiving short warning messages

Important

Public Warning and Information System is available on 2G (GSM), 3G (UMTS) and 4G (LTE) networks of all public mobile communication service providers, namely, Bitė Lietuva, Telia and Tele2. Warning messages are received by mobile phones which have activated cell broadcast function.

If you have a basic phone (not a smart phone) and if you are sure that the settings of your handset are correct, however, you still do not receive cell broadcast messages or receive it seldom, the reason may be that there is double set 2G/3G (GSM/UMTS) or automatically chosen network.

Since almost all basic phones receive warning messages only in 2G (GSM) network, you should choose the correct network – 2G (GSM). In this case, you will always receive messages and there should be none connection quality problems.

If you have a smart phone with Android OS and if you are sure that the settings of your handset are correct, however, you still do not receive cell broadcast messages or receive it seldom, the reason may be that there are double set 2G/3G (GSM/UMTS) or triple set 2G/3G/4G (GSM/UMTS/LTE) network options. It may be explained that your phone receive messages in 2G (GSM) network only.

If you have an iPhone, cell broadcast function works for Telia clients, who have phones with operational system iOS 8 and latest versions, while for Tele2 clients it starts from iOS 9.3 to latest versions, Bitė Lietuva starts from iOS 10.3.3.

Some of basic phones and smart phones do not receive warning messages in Lithuanian or Russian at all or receive it in hieroglyphic symbols in the text. The solution to this problem is to choose channel „525“, which enables receiving of messages in English (EN) and Lithuanian (LT), yet without typical letters (lisp) or Lithuanian (LT) only, but still without typical letters (lisp) .

For the handsets that use 2 SIM cards cell broadcast function is always set for the SIM card that is inserted first, otherwise warning messages will not be received.

In some of the phones cell broadcast messages are not saved in the phone automatically. If you wish to save such messages you may do so manually.
